Trump Claims Israel Agrees to Gaza Peace Deal, Urges Hamas to Accept Terms

Former US President Donald Trump has announced that Israel has agreed to a new US-backed proposal aimed at ending the war in Gaza, calling on Hamas to also accept the terms in order to bring an end to nearly a year of bloodshed.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday, Trump outlined a 20-point plan developed by his administration, which he claimed could pave the way for lasting peace in the region.

“I want to thank Prime Minister Netanyahu for agreeing to the plan and for trusting that, if we work together, we can end the death and destruction we’ve seen for so many years – decades, even centuries – and begin a new chapter of security, peace and prosperity for the entire region,” Trump said.

While full details of the proposal have not been made public, Trump stated that the plan has already received broad international backing and includes provisions for a ceasefire, the return of hostages, and long-term security arrangements for Israel.

“Everyone else has accepted it,” he said. “But I have a feeling that we’re going to have a positive answer” from Hamas.

Netanyahu offered his full support, saying the plan meets Israel’s core military goals.

“It will bring back to Israel all our hostages, dismantle Hamas’ military capabilities and political rule, and ensure that Gaza never again poses a threat to Israel,” he said.

Trump added that if Hamas agrees to the terms, the group would be required to release all remaining hostages within 72 hours.

As of Tuesday, Hamas has yet to issue a formal response.

The war in Gaza, which reignited in October 2023, has resulted in catastrophic humanitarian conditions and the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians. The Israeli military campaign has faced increasing global condemnation, with international human rights groups and several countries accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza.

In the Maldives, where public support for Palestine remains strong, the government has repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire and an end to what it describes as the unlawful killing of civilians. The Maldivian people have held regular demonstrations in solidarity with Gaza, calling for justice, accountability, and meaningful international action.

Trump’s announcement comes amid renewed global efforts to secure a ceasefire and rebuild Gaza, where humanitarian conditions continue to deteriorate.
