First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has inaugurated the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Clinic at Dhiggaru Health Centre, Meemu atoll. She unveiled the NCD during her official trip to Dhiggaru, to grace the ceremony held to mark World Diabetes Day. Upon her arrival at the island, First Lady Sajidha was showered with a warm welcome. Following the inauguration of the clinic, the first lady toured the facilities and inquired about the services provided. She also signed the visitors’ book of the Dhiggaru Health Centre. The first lady was then presented with a special gift on behalf of the Health Centre and the Dhiggaru Island Council. Dhiggaru Health Centre revealed that the primary objective of the clinic is to address the issue of the increasing number of individuals diagnosed with non-communicable diseases. Highlighting that cases of diabetes and high blood pressure were increasing on the atoll, the health centre stressed that the island was ranked second, for the number of individuals diagnosed with such diseases. The NCD Clinic will assist individuals to test for diseases and increase awareness to patients. The clinic is established in the administrative building developed in 2023. Dhiggaru Health Centre has been operating since 2004, and provides services around the clock, with just two doctors. In addition to the residents of the island, nearby resorts also depend on the facility when seeking healthcare services. The health centre provides laboratory services, including mobile laboratory services. On average, it provides services to 15-20 individuals on a daily basis.
