A new sports skating facility is set to be constructed in the Usfasgan’du area of Malé, following the laying of its foundation stone at a ceremony held on Thursday evening. The project, which includes a speed skating track and a skateboarding park, is being developed under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC).
The foundation stone was laid by Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu, and RCC Deputy Managing Director, Adam Raheem. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also attended the groundbreaking ceremony, which was well attended by young skaters who showcased their talent during the event.

According to the Ministry of Sports, the facility will feature two distinct areas: a speed skate track designed for roller skating, and a skateboarding park equipped with ramps and platforms for freestyle skating. The arena is intended to support the growth of skating as a sport in the Maldives and provide a safe, purpose-built space for training and recreation.
President Muizzu, in a statement shared via his official X account, described the project as a significant step forward in youth development and community welfare. He noted that the permanent skating arena would offer enhanced opportunities for young people to succeed in skating at the international level, while also contributing to public health and social engagement.
A dedicated Skating Association has also been established to support the initiative, led by fitness and physical education expert Mohamed Hanim. The association aims to promote skating across the Maldives and foster a community of athletes committed to the sport.
The new arena is expected to become a hub for youth activity and sporting excellence, reflecting the government’s broader commitment to expanding recreational infrastructure and encouraging active lifestyles.
