Maldives Named Indian Ocean’s Best Island at Condé Nast Traveller 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards

The Maldives has once again reaffirmed its status as the premier island destination in the Indian Ocean, having been named the Best Island in Africa and the Indian Ocean at the prestigious Condé Nast Traveller 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards.

Announced on 7 October, the annual awards—widely regarded as one of the most respected accolades in the global travel industry—celebrate excellence across destinations, resorts, hotels, and travel experiences, as voted by the magazine’s international readership.

This year, the Maldives achieved an exceptional score of 97.50, placing it firmly ahead of other regional contenders, including Madagascar (92.42), Kenya’s Lamu Archipelago (92.38), and Zanzibar, Tanzania (91.43).

In its editorial, Condé Nast Traveller praised the Maldives as a destination where “the sand is eye-searingly white, the water is as swimming-pool blue as it looks on the postcards, and the deliciously reliable weather makes it a winter-sun showstopper.” The publication also highlighted the iconic seaplane views of the atolls, the vibrant coral reefs, and the diversity of resort experiences that make each island unique.

The Maldives’ dominance extended beyond the island category, with 13 of the Top 20 Resorts in the Indian Ocean located within the archipelago. Leading the list was Soneva Fushi, which secured the top spot with a near-perfect score of 99.61, followed closely by Soneva Jani, Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru, and The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort.

Two standout properties—Constance Halaveli and Constance Moofushi—were also spotlighted for their exceptional guest experiences. Constance Halaveli, located in the North Ari Atoll, was commended for its refined dining, family-friendly atmosphere, and world-class spa and diving offerings. Meanwhile, Constance Moofushi was described as a “smart all-inclusive retreat” that blends laid-back luxury with impeccable service and design.

A Global Standard for Island Hospitality

This latest recognition further cements the Maldives’ reputation as a world leader in luxury island tourism. With its commitment to sustainability, innovative hospitality concepts, and natural beauty, the country continues to attract discerning travellers seeking both relaxation and adventure.

As the global appetite for meaningful and immersive travel grows, the Maldives remains a beacon of barefoot luxury, offering an unparalleled blend of serenity, sophistication, and soul-stirring scenery.

“Sometimes only the Maldives will do,” wrote Condé Nast Traveller—a sentiment echoed by the millions who continue to choose the island nation as their ultimate escape.
