President Mohamed Muizzu has called on the people of Addu City to support People’s National Congress candidates in the 2026 Local Council Elections, saying close cooperation between the government and the city council is necessary to deliver the development projects he has pledged for the area.
Speaking at the “Greater Addu–Malé Rally” held on Saturday night at Artificial Beach, Muizzu said electing PNC representatives would help strengthen coordination between the central government and the local council in carrying out planned development initiatives in Addu.
“I appeal to the beloved citizens of Addu City to extend their full support and elect all our candidates in the upcoming Local Council Elections for the future of Addu City,” President Muizzu said.
He said the council’s active role and cooperation are essential for implementing the government’s plans, adding that recent experience has shown the importance of alignment between the national administration and local authorities.
“The full cooperation and proactive role of the Council are essential for me to fulfill the development pledges I have made for Addu City. This is an undeniable fact,” he said.
The rally drew a large crowd as the ruling PNC continued its campaign ahead of the local council elections scheduled for April 4. Political parties have begun campaigning across the country as the vote approaches.
