Maldivian Foreign Minister heads to Brussels for key EU Indo-Pacific talks

The Maldives’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, has departed for Brussels to take part in the fourth European Union Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum, following an invitation from Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.

The two-day forum, held from 20–21 November, is expected to serve as an important juncture in strengthening cooperation between the EU and countries across the Indo-Pacific — a region increasingly central to global trade, environmental security and geopolitical stability.

During the visit, Dr Khaleel will meet several counterparts from partner nations on the sidelines of the forum. He is also scheduled to join a roundtable session titled “Common endeavours for a clean and sustainable future”, reflecting the Maldives’ ongoing advocacy for climate action, blue economy partnerships and sustainable development.

Officials said the Maldives’ participation underscores its commitment to multilateral cooperation and to deepening its engagement with regional and global partners at a time of rapidly evolving strategic challenges.
