The Maldives has marked the 58th anniversary of diplomatic relations with the Republic of Korea at a reception held in Malé, hosted by the Korean Ambassador to the Maldives, Her Excellency Miyon Lee.
The event brought together Cabinet Ministers, senior government officials, and members of the diplomatic corps to reflect on nearly six decades of bilateral cooperation and shared progress.
Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel attended the ceremony as Chief Guest and delivered remarks underscoring the strength and depth of the Maldives–Korea relationship. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to further strengthening ties with Seoul, noting that the partnership has steadily expanded into key sectors such as human resource development, governance, education, technology, and healthcare.
Dr Khaleel highlighted the role of these longstanding collaborations in supporting national development and capacity-building efforts. He also praised the enduring friendship between the two nations, describing it as one built on mutual respect, trust, and a shared vision for peace and prosperity.
Expressing optimism for the future, the Foreign Minister stated that both countries are well-positioned to deepen cooperation in emerging areas, contributing to sustainable growth and regional stability.
The reception concluded with both delegations reiterating their commitment to enhancing engagement at both bilateral and multilateral levels, signalling a continued dedication to fostering strong diplomatic ties as the two nations look ahead to new opportunities.
