The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has started transferring land plots in Gulhifalhu to recipients under the government’s Binveriya housing scheme.
According to the ministry, clearing and demarcation of plots began on 3 September, with formal handovers commencing on 14 September. Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib confirmed that plots currently used as temporary construction sites will be issued once contractors complete their work.
The Gulhifalhu land-use plan was revised earlier this year, with calculations finalised on 30 May. Registrations opened on 12 July, and 1,260 applicants have been registered so far. Recipients must book appointments through the Hiyaavehi Portal to collect their documents.
Officials described the handover as a significant milestone in the Binveriya Scheme, which aims to improve access to housing by providing residential land plots to Maldivian families.
