Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel on Sunday conveyed his sincere gratitude and appreciation for the Ambassador of Japan’s personal contribution towards the expansion of bilateral ties and the generous support extended to the Maldives during her ambassadorial tenure.
The Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Takeuchi Midori paid her farewell call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel on Sunday afternoon at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Takeuchi Midori expressed gratitude for the Maldivian government’s support and help throughout her stay and stated her commitment to continue working closely with the Government of Maldives in strengthening the friendly relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Khaleel and Ambassador Takeuchi Midori highlighted the enduring friendship between the Maldives and Japan, which marked its 57th anniversary on 14 November, the Ministry said.
The Minister also highlighted the partnership’s foundation of trust, shared values, and close collaboration across various sectors, underpinned by strong people-to-people ties.
The Minister expressed appreciation for Japan’s significant contributions to the Maldives’ development, particularly in disaster management, infrastructure, education, and maritime security. Both the Minister and the Ambassador had concurred on their readiness to work together to further enhance the ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Midori presented her Credentials on 20 January 2022, and is departing the Maldives after more than two years as Ambassador of Japan.
