President Muizzu Vows Economic Revival, Better Living Standards for Maldivians

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to restore the Maldivian economy and usher in a period of prosperity for citizens, framing the goal as the central commitment of his administration.

Speaking at a People’s National Congress (PNC) gathering, the President said his governing philosophy rests on advancing the country through democratic principles. He told supporters that over the past two and a half years, his administration has worked to establish political stability and lift the country out of what he described as a deep economic downturn, guided by a sense of national purpose.

Muizzu argued that the economy was in a weakened state when the previous opposition was in government, and that his administration has since implemented a comprehensive economic policy to reverse that decline. He said one outcome of the strategy has been the steady repayment of large debts inherited from earlier years, with close to a billion dollars in obligations settled over the past several weeks.

“The hard work of paying 974 million in the last 40 days or so was done for the future of the country. This fact will not change. As a result of doing it that way, the debt that was previously placed on the head of every citizen has now been greatly reduced. For the generations to come, the country is being taken to the shores of safety. That is one of the most important promises made to bring back the Maldives of the Maldivians. Lifting the economy. The work being done to lift the economy is succeeding,” the President said.

Muizzu stressed that improving the everyday lives of ordinary Maldivians remains his top priority. He identified raising household incomes and guaranteeing basic housing for every citizen as core objectives of the government.

The President said a carefully planned and comprehensive economic agenda is being rolled out to deliver on those commitments. The end result, he added, will be the kind of prosperous and stable life that citizens have long sought.
