Vice President Highlights Accelerated Development Agenda for the Coming Three Years

Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has stated that the coming three years will bring the accelerated rollout of major national development projects, building on the foundations laid during the Administration’s first two years. He made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Public Service Media (PSM) to mark the Government’s second anniversary.

Reflecting on the Administration’s early period, the Vice President noted that he had a clear understanding of the country’s condition upon assuming office. He explained that the Government initially faced significant financial and administrative constraints, which slowed the progress of several ongoing projects. He also highlighted the challenges posed by an opposition-majority Parliament, stating that political efforts within the legislature to obstruct the work of a legitimately elected Government hampered early development efforts.

Despite these challenges, the Vice President emphasised that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has set forth an ambitious and forward-looking vision for the country. He said the next three years will see the implementation of several large-scale projects of long-term national importance, guided by the President’s strategic direction.

Commending President Dr Muizzu’s leadership, he noted that the President has consistently prioritised initiatives that deliver direct, meaningful benefits to the Maldivian people. With strengthened institutional mandates and improved planning frameworks now in place, he said development efforts can move ahead more efficiently, transparently, and in alignment with principles of sound governance.

The Vice President also praised the President’s tireless work ethic and active presence in the atolls, describing his hands-on approach as central to driving progress across the country.

Highlighting the Administration’s commitment to strengthening national self-sufficiency, he pointed to the accelerated development of Velana International Airport, the expansion of domestic aviation services, and enhancements to the nationwide transport network as key areas of focus.

He concluded by assuring the public that the Administration remains committed to upholding the trust the people have placed in it. He reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to addressing pressing national challenges, safeguarding fundamental rights, increasing state income, and promoting economic and social stability.
