Bank of Maldives (BML) has been selected to host the 42nd Asian Bankers Association (ABA) General Meeting and Conference, which will be held in the Maldives in 2026. The prestigious event will bring together senior banking and financial leaders from across Asia to discuss industry challenges, emerging opportunities, and the future of financial services.
The announcement was made during the 41st ABA General Meeting and Conference, held in Bhutan from 15–16 September 2025. During the event, BML’s CEO and Managing Director, Mohamed Shareef, was appointed Vice Chairman of the ABA.
“We are honoured to be chosen as the host for the 42nd ABA General Meeting and Conference,” said Mr Shareef. “This presents a valuable opportunity for the Maldives to highlight its dynamic financial sector and reinforce its commitment to regional cooperation. We look forward to welcoming our counterparts from the Asian banking community and facilitating meaningful dialogue on the future of our industry.”
This will be the second time BML hosts the ABA conference, following a successful event in 2018. The selection reflects the bank’s growing influence and leadership within the regional banking landscape.
The 2026 conference will be attended by representatives from ABA member institutions, including CEOs, senior executives, and industry experts. The programme will feature panel discussions, workshops, and networking sessions focused on key topics shaping the banking and financial services sector.
