Seaplane Operations to Begin in Kamadhoo to Boost Local Tourism

Kamadhoo is set to welcome seaplane operations for the first time, following the signing of an agreement between Maldivian and Hawks Hotels. The move is expected to open the island to greater tourism opportunities and bring direct economic benefits to the community.

The agreement, signed on Monday during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the island, will enable seaplane services connecting Kamadhoo with resorts and other parts of the country. Increased connectivity is expected to create new avenues for local businesses, support guesthouse growth, and integrate the island more closely with the Maldives’ tourism network.

The visit also saw the signing of an agreement to construct a new building for Kamadhoo School, enhancing educational facilities for local students. In addition, the President pledged upgrades to health and recreational amenities, and commended Kamadhoo’s approach to road development, which balances infrastructure needs with preserving the island’s natural beauty.

For Kamadhoo, the seaplane initiative represents more than faster travel. It is a step toward ensuring that tourism’s economic reach extends beyond resort islands, allowing local communities to share directly in the benefits of the Maldives’ biggest industry.
