Bank of Maldives Launches ‘Dhiveheenge Bank – Mulhi Raajje ah’ Campaign, Reinforces National Commitment

Bank of Maldives (BML), the country’s leading financial institution, has today unveiled its latest corporate campaign, ‘Dhiveheenge Bank – Mulhi Raajje ah’, reaffirming its foundational commitment to the Maldivian people and its central role in driving national economic progress.

The campaign was formally launched by His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held in Malé. In his keynote address, BML’s CEO and Managing Director, Mohamed Shareef, reflected on the Bank’s founding mission in 1982, which extended beyond commercial banking to encompass a broader vision of national development.

“This campaign is a celebration of our legacy and future,” said Shareef. “Bank of Maldives is not merely a financial institution; it is a partner in the nation’s journey, supporting individuals, businesses and communities across the archipelago.”

Landmark ATM Rollout Across All Inhabited Islands

A highlight of the event was the recognition of the ‘Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM’ project, a nationwide initiative that has successfully delivered 24/7 self-service banking to every inhabited island in the Maldives. The first ATM was installed in February 2025, and within just nine months, the Bank deployed ATMs to 105 islands across all 20 atolls.

The project was completed with a 33% reduction in costs compared to traditional installations, achieved through a multi-stakeholder approach and efficient implementation. President Muizzu conferred special recognition to the project team for their exceptional delivery.

“This is a promise fulfilled,” Shareef remarked. “Every citizen now has access to modern banking services, regardless of location. This is financial inclusion at its finest.”

The project has earned BML the ‘Outstanding Achievement of the Year in Financial Inclusion’ award from Qorus, a globally respected financial sector recognition programme.

Launch of Swipe: A Maldivian-Built Digital Wallet

Furthering its digital ambitions, BML introduced Swipe, a multicurrency digital wallet developed entirely by Maldivian fintech talent. Unveiled by President Muizzu, Swipe offers instant, secure payments via QR codes, international fund transfers, and real-time spending insights.

The wallet supports top-ups from any global debit, credit or prepaid card, and enables seamless withdrawals to BML accounts. Merchants benefit from real-time settlement, enhancing cash flow management.

“Swipe is a milestone for digital payments in our country,” said Shareef. “It is built by Maldivians, for Maldives and beyond, and positions our fintech capabilities on the global stage.”

Swipe will enter beta testing in December 2025.

  • Daily ATM withdrawal limit of USD 3,200
