Apple will launch its iPhone 17 line-up on 9 September at an event branded “Awe Dropping”. Although the company has not revealed details of the new devices, leaks and industry reports suggest upgrades in performance, battery life and cameras.
Design
The standard iPhone 17 is expected to retain the design of last year’s model. However, leaked images and dummy cases indicate that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a redesigned, rectangular camera module — a significant change from previous generations.
Display
Both the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro are likely to carry 6.3-inch XDR OLED displays, while the Pro Max version is expected to retain its larger 6.9-inch panel. In a notable shift, the iPhone 17 may include Apple’s ProMotion technology for the first time, offering smoother refresh rates, though it remains unclear if it will support an Always-On Display.
Performance
The new series will be powered by Apple’s latest processors: the iPhone 17 is tipped to run on the A19 chip, while the Pro models are expected to feature the more powerful A19 Pro. Performance figures have not yet been disclosed, but improvements in speed and efficiency are anticipated.
Camera
The iPhone 17 is likely to continue with a dual-camera system — a 48MP main sensor and a 12MP ultrawide. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, however, are rumoured to upgrade their telephoto lenses to 48MP, enhancing zoom capability and image quality.
Battery and Charging
Exact battery capacities remain undisclosed, in line with Apple’s practice. Nonetheless, the combination of larger batteries and more efficient chips is expected to deliver longer usage times. Charging speeds should remain similar to the current generation, at around 25W.
In addition, the Pro models are reported to support reverse wired charging, enabling users to power accessories such as AirPods directly from their iPhones.
Apple is likely to confirm full specifications, pricing and availability during next week’s launch event.
