In Dharavandhoo, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu called on local councils to work hand in hand with the Government, stressing that political affiliations should never hinder the delivery of services to citizens.
Addressing residents during his Baa Atoll tour, the President said that when politics takes precedence over public welfare, it is communities that suffer. He pledged to ensure governance remains focused on results and not derailed by partisan divides, adding that every moment in public service counts.
The President explained recent amendments to the Decentralisation Act, stating that they are designed to empower communities and strengthen local governance. When communities are given the tools to lead, he said, councils are better placed to fulfil their responsibilities and deliver on development pledges.
For Dharavandhoo, the President confirmed a series of projects to be completed in the next 18 months. These include expanding Baa Atoll School with new classrooms, a multipurpose hall, and upgraded office facilities. He also pledged improvements to the health sector, new sports and recreation projects, road and harbour development, and initiatives to boost tourism.
Highlighting Dharavandhoo Airport as one of the country’s most successful regional hubs, President Muizzu announced plans to upgrade the facility through Island Aviation Services, following due legal procedures.
Closing his remarks, the President reiterated that effective governance requires cooperation, accountability, and treating all citizens equally, regardless of political leanings.
