President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with representatives of the Island Council, Women’s Development Committee, and local institutions in Goidhoo today to hear the community’s key development priorities.
Health services topped the list, with calls to upgrade the island’s health centre and establish additional facilities. The council also raised concerns over Fenaka Corporation’s office being located in a residential area, citing space constraints and the need for a new building. Upgrading the island’s electricity grid and extending power to the tourism zone were identified as urgent requirements, alongside creating opportunities for eco-tourism.
Education and sports facilities were another focus. The council pointed to limited space at Goidhoo School, the incomplete staff room project, and defects in the electrical system. They also sought updates on the multipurpose hall and sports arena.
The President assured the community that these concerns would be reviewed and addressed, noting that practical solutions would be developed in consultation with relevant agencies. He also shared updates on ongoing development projects, joined by Cabinet Ministers and senior officials from State-Owned Enterprises.
The meeting formed part of the President’s Baa Atoll tour, which includes visits to all 13 inhabited islands to directly engage with communities and align development plans with local priorities.
