Maldives Ambassador Presents Credentials to UAE

Maldives’ newly appointed Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Thoriq Ibrahim, has presented a copy of his credentials to the UAE government, marking the formal start of his diplomatic posting in Abu Dhabi.

The credentials were received by Omar Obaid Alhesan Alshamsi, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a meeting between the two officials. Alshamsi welcomed the ambassador and wished him success in his new role, while reaffirming the UAE’s commitment to expanding cooperation with the Maldives across a range of sectors for the mutual benefit of both countries and their peoples.

In his remarks, Ambassador Ibrahim praised the UAE’s growing regional and international standing under the leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He also expressed his intention to work toward strengthening and broadening bilateral ties during his tenure.

Growing Bilateral Ties

The Maldives and the UAE maintain close diplomatic relations that officials describe as continuing to expand across several areas, including environmental protection, climate action, tourism and renewable energy.

Ibrahim was appointed as the Maldives’ ambassador to the UAE by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu last Thursday. His appointment received parliamentary approval from the People’s Majlis on June 22. He previously served as the country’s Minister of Tourism and Environment.

The ambassadorial post had been vacant since April 6, when Mohamed Hussain Shareef was removed from the position.
