Maldivian High Commission Assists Citizens Affected by Sri Lanka Floods

The Maldivian High Commission in Sri Lanka has begun providing essential food and water supplies to Maldivians impacted by severe flooding across the country.

According to the mission, assistance is being extended to individuals and families who have requested support as widespread flooding continues to disrupt transport, services and daily life. A dedicated call centre has been set up to identify Maldivians in need, with officials closely monitoring the welfare of citizens in Colombo and other affected regions.

Food items, drinking water and other essentials are being delivered to those facing shortages, including Maldivian students residing across Sri Lanka. Support has also been provided to Maldivians stranded at Bandaranaike International Airport, where flight delays and transport difficulties have affected travellers.

The High Commission said it is preparing to contribute to broader relief efforts for Sri Lankan communities impacted by the floods. Maldivians have been urged to follow local safety guidelines, avoid non-essential travel and relocate from low-lying areas where necessary. The Sri Lanka Meteorological Department has warned of continued heavy rainfall and strong winds.

Anyone requiring assistance is advised to contact the High Commission’s emergency hotline on 768816666 as officials continue to coordinate relief and monitor developments.
