President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has departed for the United Kingdom at the invitation of His Majesty King Charles III to participate in a High-level Briefing on Private Capital Mobilisation, organised by the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI).
The event will bring together Heads of Multilateral Development Banks and senior leaders from major financial institutions to explore strategies for mobilising private capital to accelerate sustainable development and support global climate transitions through stronger international cooperation.
The Sustainable Markets Initiative, founded under the vision of His Majesty King Charles III, aims to drive private-sector action on sustainability by convening CEOs and global decision-makers. Its mission is to embed sustainability into economic activity and guide businesses towards long-term, environmentally responsible growth aligned with national climate commitments and the 1.5°C pathway.
The Maldives, one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable nations, faces rising sea levels, coastal erosion, and severe weather events that threaten its very existence. President Muizzu’s participation highlights the country’s push for innovative financing solutions to fund renewable energy, coastal protection, and resilient infrastructure, ensuring vulnerable nations are not left behind in the global climate transition.
