Bank of Maldives (BML) has been recognised by Mastercard for its instrumental role in advancing the Maldives’ digital economy through the Digital Country Partnership initiative.
The accolade was presented to BML’s CEO and Managing Director, Mohamed Shareef, by Mastercard’s Country Manager for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Sandun Hapugoda, during the Digital Finance Leadership event held in Singapore.
Signed in August 2025, the Digital Country Partnership is a collaborative agreement between the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, Bank of Maldives, and Mastercard. It reflects BML’s steadfast commitment to fostering innovation and accelerating digital transformation across the nation. The partnership aims to modernise the Maldives’ digital infrastructure and broaden access to secure, efficient digital services for individuals, businesses, and communities.
Since becoming a Principal Member of Mastercard in 2002, BML has worked closely with the global payments leader on several transformative initiatives. Notably, the two organisations enabled digital payments on the Raajje Transport Link (RTL), contributing to the development of smart city solutions and reshaping the country’s financial landscape.
This latest recognition from Mastercard underscores BML’s leadership in leveraging technology and strategic partnerships to drive progress. By embracing innovative digital solutions, the Bank continues to play a pivotal role in the Maldives’ economic and technological development.
