President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has returned to the capital following a comprehensive three-day tour of the inhabited islands of Hadhdhunmathi Atoll, underscoring his administration’s commitment to community-led development and inclusive governance.
During the visit, the President travelled to all eleven inhabited islands of the atoll—Kunahandhoo, Hithadhoo, Maamendhoo, Fonadhoo, Maavah, Gan, Mundoo, Maabaidhoo, Kalaidhoo, Isdhoo, and Dhan’bidhoo—where he engaged directly with Island Councils, Women’s Development Committees (WDCs), and local residents. Discussions centred on community welfare, infrastructure needs, and development priorities.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet ministers and heads of State-Owned Enterprises, the President received detailed briefings on ongoing and upcoming projects tailored to each island’s unique requirements.
Several development initiatives were formally launched across the atoll, with agreements signed to facilitate future undertakings. These projects span key sectors including housing, education, healthcare, social welfare, and financial inclusion.
While certain inauguration ceremonies were postponed due to inclement weather, President Muizzu assured islanders that all projects would proceed as scheduled, with close oversight from the Government. He reiterated his administration’s resolve to work collaboratively with local communities to ensure equitable progress.
In his public addresses, the President emphasised plans to enhance air connectivity within the region. He announced that feasibility studies are underway to identify a suitable site for a new airport, and confirmed that Kadhdhoo Airport will be upgraded to international standards within three years.
Further social welfare measures were also unveiled, including an increase in the allowance for single mothers and the introduction of a dedicated allowance for thalassaemia patients, effective January 2026. The President reaffirmed his pledge to establish police services on every inhabited island in the Maldives.
Commenting on the upcoming referendum in Addu City’s Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo, and Feydhoo regarding the formation of separate councils, President Muizzu stated that the Government would maintain a neutral stance.
The tour reflects the President’s ongoing efforts to foster inclusive development and strengthen ties between the central administration and island communities.
