Kudarikilu’s Water and Sanitation Project to Resume After Long Delay

In Kudarikilu, one of the most pressing local concerns is finally set to be addressed. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu told residents on Monday that work on the island’s stalled water and sanitation project will restart in August, with completion expected within six months from September.

The update came during a meeting with the community at Kudarikilu School, part of the President’s tour of Baa Atoll. For many residents, the delay had been a source of frustration, and the announcement offers a clear timeline for when this essential service will be in place.

Once the water and sewerage works are completed, road construction assigned to the Road Development Corporation will begin. Plans for a multi-purpose hall following the completion of stalled school renovations were also outlined, alongside confirmation that the foundation for a new health centre has been laid. A contract has been signed for a new mosque, with construction set to begin once land allocation is finalised.

Sports and recreation facilities will also see progress, with the football field project moving ahead this month and plans in place for a fitness and recreation centre and a handball court.

For Kudarikilu, these commitments represent more than a list of projects. They form part of a broader approach to ensure that essential infrastructure and community facilities are delivered, fulfilling promises made during the election and addressing priorities identified by the island itself.
