Traffic flow around Velana International Airport (VIA) has been temporarily changed due to ongoing drainage works on the road leading to the airport’s new passenger terminal, the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced.
Under the new arrangement, the current entry road has been replaced with the road in front of the new terminal. As part of the changes, the taxi queue has been shifted to the end of the passenger walkway. The taxi drop-off point and MTCC buses will now also depart from and stop at this revised location.
The new traffic pattern took effect on Saturday and will remain in place until July 21. MACL has advised that U-turns are only permitted at the police checkpoint area during this period.
The changes come as final preparations are underway for the official opening of the new passenger terminal, scheduled for July 26. MACL has confirmed that technical trials of key passenger processing systems have been successfully completed. The company has also been engaging with relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition once the terminal opens.
