Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that a shipment from India has been transported Germany, via Sea-to-Air Cargo services. MACL stated that the transshipment from India was sent to Europe by Condo Airline, marks a significant milestone as it is an expansion of the cargo services. Sea-to-Air Cargo Transshipment services were provided from the shipments arriving from Bangladesh. While the demand for this service continues to grow, the transshipment from India has also commenced. Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) reported that in October alone, a total of 96 containers (418 tonnes of goods) were sent across various destinations via air transportation, showcasing the high demand for the services. MPL introduced sea-to-air cargo services in the Maldives, facilitating the transportation of goods to the nation by sea, which are then delivered to various global destinations by air. The service is a joint effort between MPL, Maldives State Shipping (MSS), Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), and international airlines. The sea-to-air service offers a quicker alternative for transporting goods from exporting countries to select destinations. One of the key advantages for the Maldives is the abundance of flights to numerous countries, particularly across Europe. The hybrid sea-to-air model provides an efficient and fast method for moving goods, catering to the needs of businesses and industries in the region. It also enhances the speed and reliability of freight services. In a recent social media post, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MPL Mohamed Wajeeh reiterated President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s overarching goal of introducing revenue-generating industries and enhancing the economy. Aiming to achieve this goal, Sea-to-Air Cargo services were introduced in less than a year since the president took office. Wajeeh expressed optimism in this service, stating that it will play a key role in bolstering economic growth and development. Under efforts to expand the services and gain the trust of customers, a team of MPL visited the garment factory in Chittagong, Bangladesh and held discussions with the factory leaders. Wajeeh noted that the discussions brought to light that over 400 containers can be brought to the Maldives via sea transportation, which can then be delivered to global destinations. He stated that discussions are ongoing with shipping lines arriving to the Maldives, adding that efforts are being exerted to attain the necessary equipment and machineries to provide efficient and satisfactory services to customers.
